CDIA Showcases Best Student Films at the Independent Film Festival of Boston
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) March 28, 2008 -- The Center for Digital Imaging Arts (http://www.cdiabu.com/overview.php) at Boston University (CDIA) will be showcasing a selection of the year's best student films (http://www.cdiabu.com/filmmaking/studentwork.php) to emerge from its Digital Filmmaking Program (http://www.cdiabu.com/digitalfilmmaking.php) on Saturday, April 26, 11:30 a.m. at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square, Somerville, MA. Films will be covering a wide variety of genres -- from documentary to fiction, from experimental to public service announcements -- the lineup promises to stimulate, entertain and inform audiences.
The event is free and open to the public and provides those interested in learning more about CDIA an opportunity to view student work and meet the filmmakers, instructors and program directors.
"This is our third trip to IFFB." notes Federico Muchnik, CDIA's Digital Filmmaking Program director. "The Independent Film Festival of Boston is a great event and our students' films fit so well into the programming lineup." Muchnik offered a preview on some of the films: "We're showing a film, based on a true story, about a young Japanese woman who believed the film Fargo was a true story, flew to the US and searched for the hidden suitcase filled with money. I won't give away the ending. Another great film, Sophie's World, based on the bestselling book by Jostein Gaarder, examines life's deep philosophical questions through the eyes of a teenage girl."
Muchnik adds how impressed he is at the variety of film styles and the unique vision each film brings to the showcase. "We have a documentary about a man with cancer whose life was saved because of a fascination with mandalas he can share with the world. Another film, Fly on the Wall, chronicles the lives of underground graffiti artists. It's a very exciting time at CDIA; some truly outstanding films are being made here."
The Digital Filmmaking Program at CDIA trains aspiring filmmakers in the craft and technique of storytelling through film. Full- and part-time film programs are available. CDIA graduates work in various aspects of the industry, from freelancing on feature films to starting videography businesses.
