Composer Felix Brenner & DJ Paul Oakenfold Present Symphonic Remix With Boston Pops
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 20, 2007 -- The Boston Pops (www.bostonpops.org) has commissioned composer Felix Brenner to write a 15 minute piece for full orchestra that will be remixed live by world-renowned DJ Paul Oakenfold at Boston's Symphony Hall.
Brenner and Oakenfold have set out to literally turn the tables on classic symphonic presentation. Written in sonata form, with romantic and Latin influences, this piece demonstrates strong crossover effect for all audiences. Adding drum beats, electronic instruments, samples, and effects, this composition rises to a level not frequently realized within orchestral presentation.
Travelacoustica will be performed acoustically by the 96-piece Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra on June 23 and 24.
Travelacoustica: Symphonic Remix will debut at Boston's Symphony Hall on June 26 and 27. The technologically evolved version of the piece will be augmented by electronic instruments and performed live by world-renowned DJ Paul Oakenfold and drum wiz Andreas Brobjer. While orchestra plays Brenner's piece, Oakenfold mixes digital instrumentation and samples of the original music over the orchestra using turntables, CD players, effects, and electronic keyboards. Electronic drums play over the piece by Brobjer, adding further texture to the composition.
This collaborative approach to remixing and orchestral composition explores the intricacies of classic symphonic form while bringing a unique blend of modern remixing techniques to the concert hall.
Travelacoustica and Travelacoustica: Symphonic Remix will be presented as part of The Boston Pops EdgeFest concert series. The headliner for June 23 and 24 is The Cowboy Junkies. Hem will headline the June 26 and 27 performances. Composer Nico Muhly will also be featured on all four nights.
Los Angeles native Felix Brenner wrote the music for the 2005 award-winning independent short film The Death of Salvador Dali. This 33-year-old composer is also a musician, engineer, and producer, and has worked with many of today's top artists including The Shins, Sean Lennon, Brian Setzer, and Shelby Lynne.
DJ Paul Oakenfold has remixed tracks for artists ranging from Madonna to Justin Timberlake to Moby to U2 to Snoop Doggy Dog. In 2006, he remixed several tracks on Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor and opened for her tour of the same name. His music has been broadcast globally for mega-brands Coca-Cola, Toyota, Motorola, and Saab, and on the films Swordfish, The Matrix Reloaded, and Michael Mann's Collateral. His new album, A Lively Mind, features guest vocal appearances by Brittany Murphy, Pharrell Williams, Spitfire, and Grandmaster Flash.
Andreas Brobjer is a 19 year old multi-instrumentalist and producer from Sweden. He has toured with Aly and AJ, STEFY, and others, and is currently writing and producing music in Los Angeles.
